It was a battle of the Titans in Brunswick Park on Saturday as Barnet councillors and police went head to head in a heated fundraising race around the ward.

Having set a blistering pace from the starting line, ward councillors Lynne Hillan, Lisa Rutter, Andreas Tambourides and East Barnet councillor Joanna Tambourides proved the fitter of the two teams, claiming victory against Brunswick Park Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) police sergeant Simon Dawson and PCSO Stuart Thompson.

The walk, which began and ended at Whetstone police station, raised around £1,000 for Barnet Hospital children’s ward.

Beginning at 1pm, councillors walked clockwise around the outskirts of the ward, while Brunswick SNT walked anti–clockwise, covering a distance of nine miles in just over two hours.

Sgt Dawson said: “We are very pleased to have raised this magnificent amount of money for the children’s ward at Barnet Hospital and we would like to thank the shops and businesses of Brunswick Park ward and many others for their generosity and support.”

Mr Tambourides added: “We had a very healthy exercise walking nine miles for a very worthwhile cause.”
