Music to its ears?

Apparently around now the baby can start hearing sounds. I have heard that if you read the same book over and over to the child it might end up becoming its favourite story even before it’s born.

I was tempted to give this a go, but the only books I could find were crime novels (my husband’s), romance novels (mine) or a variety of other equally inappropriate reads. So that idea quickly went out the window until I can pop out to the shops and buy a Mr Men or two and get over the embarrassment of reading to my bump.

The experts apparently do also say that it works with music and according to research (not quite sure how they did this) babies prefer classical music so you should play such music to the child from now and it’ll relax them or something.

To be honest I was pretty sceptical but if this turns my child into a musical genius at the age of three then I was prepared to give it go.

So last night I lay on the sofa and my husband put Classic FM on the radio. Well, the results weren’t exactly mind-blowing. Within five minutes my husband had got bored and started playing on his PSP and soon after (I can’t be sure of the exact lapse in time) I fell asleep. It did plenty to relax me, but not a kick or even a flutter from the little ‘un.

The baby did kick after I ate some chocolate though. Now that’s my child for you.
